I found this interesting food item a while back, and figured tonight was as good a time as any to spring it on my unsuspecting family. It's pasta made with cuttle fish ink. Yes, cuttle fish ink. It makes the pasta black, but what about flavor....? Keep reading.......
It lost some color after cooking--in fact, the sickly gray was somewhat less than appetizing. But the family was game for trying it!
I topped the cuttle fish pasta with white clam sauce (the directions suggested using a seafood sauce) and it was actually pretty yummy. I couldn't tell that the pasta itself tasted any different--I think it's mainly an appearance thing. Although I'm not at all sure why anyone would want battleship gray pasta........
