I just had to share a recent (and ongoing) experience our family has been suffering through.
Last week, approximately Wednesday, a mouse evidently died somewhere in my car's dashboard area. I say Wednesday because on Thursday, I noticed an "off-odor", but didn't think anything of it. However, by Friday morning, the smell was so bad, I was hanging my head out the window while I drove. If you've never smelled rotting mouse corpse, there's no way for me to describe it, except to say that it was and is the most horrific odor I've ever been assaulted by.
All day Saturday, I left it parked in full sun, hoping the heat would speed up the decomposition process--but to no avail. Sunday, it was still so awful, we barely made it to church without puking (do we get points from God for suffering on our way to church.....?)
Monday, we had to get groceries, so we drove to the closest grocery store, all windows open, with our shirts pulled up over our noses. We got a few odd stares, not surprisingly......
Tuesday, I left it in the sun again. Brad tried to "sniff out" the location of the offending rotting rodent, but couldn't get to it without removing the whole dashboard. There was evidence that a very misguided and/or stupid mouse built a nest somewhere in the vicinity of the heater core. UG! Brad then suggested running with the heat on full blast, the idea being to "cook" the mouse/mice to dry out the carcasses faster.
So, on Wednesday, I ran the heat full blast--which infused the car with the odor of "roast half-rotted mouse". Lovely. But I persevered, hoping it would put an end to our misery sooner.
Thursday was another "sit in the sun" day. Hope springs eternal.
So now it's Friday again. One week since the beginning of our odious Odyssey. I ran the heater all day again, and the smell is better--but far from being gone. And it rained this morning, which meant we had to have the windows up. ZOWIE was that nasty! But since it is getting better, I have hope that it will eventually resolve......
Any ideas.....?
