Most of you know that the Niña replica ship is docked in downtown Davenport this month (see link below). Wednesday, Brad met us downtown, and we all went aboard!
Try to picture how small this thing is--they didn't build ships big back then (they really couldn't) and all the crew ate, slept, and lived on deck. Below deck was for stores, supplies, and animals. Now the crew have bunks below deck, though they are pretty cramped.
This poor fellow seems to have found disfavor with the captain.....
Leo & Brad had a great time--all smiles! Although Leo has decided he doesn't want a career at sea.....

The ship really is beautiful--I'd love to take a SHORT trip on it.

This gives you an idea of the scale. The thing is smaller than most people expect--most of the depictions I've seen in history books & movies makes the ships seem much larger, more like the later English Clipper ships.

Notice there is an application for crew members.......don't worry, I don't qualify, so I won't be running away to sea anytime soon!
